Alex Nally is a legal designer and practitioner who specializes in bringing stakeholders and policymakers together to co-design policies that center dignity and human experiences within legal systems. As Deputy General Counsel for the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education, Alex has implemented and developed regulatory guidance for state higher education laws relative to the prevention and response to campus sexual misconduct, state authorization, college closures, inclusive education, and tuition equity for undocumented students.
Alex found his passion for community organizing and public policy as a former member and chair of the Massachusetts Commission on LGBTQ+ Youth, and as Student Trustee passed MassArt’s name and gender pronoun policy. Committed to public service and nonprofit work, before joining the Department, Alex worked for the Boston Alliance of LGBTQ+ Youth (BAGLY) and MaeBright Group LLC, and served on both the Fenway Health Youth Community Advisory Board and the MassArt Board of Trustees.
Alex is a member of the Massachusetts Bar and a Certified Information Privacy Professional in U.S. privacy law (CIPP/US). He proudly holds a BFA from the Studio of Interrelated Media at MassArt, and both a JD and MS in Law and Public Policy from Northeastern University; was selected as a 2017 Rappaport Law Fellow; and is the recipient of the Massachusetts Commission on LGBTQ+ Youth Advancing Equity Award, Department of Higher Education ’29 Who Shine Award for Civic Engagement, and the MassArt Diversity and Social Justice Award.
